Genesis 2:7
"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living [chay] soul [nephesh]."
The Greek word used for “living” in Genesis 2:7 in the Septuagint is ζῶσαν (zōsan), which is derived from the root verb ζάω (zaō).
To be living | to be alive: chay (Hebrew). zao (Greek).
Soul: nephesh (Hebrew). psychḗ (Greek).
THE LIFE OF THE FLESH
Leviticus 17:11
"For the life [Hebrew: nephesh | Greek: psychḗ] of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls [nephesh | psychḗ]: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul [nephesh | psychḗ]."
Note: The same Hebrew word is used for the soul and the life of the flesh in Leviticus 17:11.
Likewise, in the Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, the word psychḗ is used interchangeably in reference to the life, the mind and the soul of individuals, showing us that in the case of each person, the mind/thoughts/emotions/soul = the life that exists with the the flesh.
John 12:25:
"He that loveth his life [psyche] shall lose it; and he that hateth his life [psyche] in this world shall keep it unto life [zōḗ] eternal."
Each verse below uses the word psyche for the mind, the life, and the soul
